The Peacock Performing Arts Center, built in 1986, is a center of community and cultural activity, providing big city entertainment in a quiet mountain town. The theater has 250 comfortable seats, superior sound and lighting, and a show schedule including four plays a year, musical concerts and other family entertainment. The children’s summer camp/show is always a big hit!
In 1986 the Peacock Playhouse became the only community theatre in far-west North Carolina. Lillith Lidseen had recognized that the area needed a professional theatre venue after the community's consistent enthusiastic response to her Licklog Players shows performed at Hayesville High School's auditorium from 1978. The Licklog Players played more than 100 plays at the Peacock. The Lilith Lidseen Performing Arts Association was formed in 2007 and purchased the building in 2009 to renovate it. Today under the management of the Lilith Lidseen Performing Arts Association, the Peacock Performing Arts Center offers dozens of events per year, ranging from comedies to concerts.
The Peacock is also available for rentals.
